Why I Built This
I spent most of a Saturday trying to answer one question: if I put 12% down on a $650,000 condo, what would my premium actually be, in dollars?
It should have taken two minutes.
Every "free calculator" I found wanted my email first — sometimes my phone number too — before it would show me a single number. The ones that didn't were built by a mortgage broker, a bank, or an investment firm, and every result gently nudged me toward calling them. Not because the math was wrong, exactly — but because the tool had a job, and the job wasn't answering my question. It was turning me into a lead.
The ones that finally gave me a straight answer buried it under ten paragraphs of blog content, three ads, and a "sign up to see your full results" wall. And even once I had that number, my next question — how does that compare to just waiting and saving a bigger down payment — sent me to a completely different site, with different assumptions I had no way to check.
I didn't need a relationship with a financial company. I needed a number. If you're reading this, you probably do too.
What I kept running into, over and over
Every tool wants something from you first
Email, phone number, an account — before you've gotten one useful answer. That's not "free." That's a lead form wearing a calculator's clothes.
Almost everything is built to sell you something
A calculator built by a bank tends to make the bank's product look good. One built by a robo-advisor nudges you toward their fund. Not necessarily dishonest — just not built for you.
Getting one precise answer takes forever
You don't want a 2,000-word article about "understanding mortgage insurance." You want your number, for your down payment, in your province, right now.
There's no one place for this
A mortgage tool here, a retirement tool there, a net worth tracker somewhere else — each one asking you to start over and trust a new set of assumptions.
"Free" often isn't free to actually use
Three calculations a day, then a paywall. Or a "Pro" tier for the one feature you actually needed.
What that means here
Every calculator on this site runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is ever sent anywhere, stored, or sold — I explain exactly how and why on every page, because I'd want to know that too. No email wall, no account, no cap on how many times you can use anything. This isn't a lead magnet for a business hiding behind it — it's the actual product.
I also tried to solve the "surgical answer" problem directly: every result explains itself in plain English, right next to the number, instead of sending you off to a separate article to understand what you're even looking at.
This will never be a finished product. If there's a calculator you needed and couldn't find here, one you saw elsewhere that did something better than mine, or a number you think I've gotten wrong — genuinely, tell me. I'll research it, and it goes on the roadmap. This whole thing exists because I got tired of hunting one number down across a dozen half-useful tools; the least I can do is not make you repeat that.
